Do "cheat days" work or are they a recipe for disaster?

I've never followed a diet that allowed a "cheat day" before. I have to say, I find it soooooo liberating! In the past, I used to try and follow a diet but when I fell off the wagon I just called it quits completely. Now I feel like I can control my cravings better because I know that I'm never more than 6 days away from a treat. I sometimes worry that one day will become two days, then three...am I setting myself up for failure?

I think the trick is to limit it to a day and not a week or more. I give myself a cheat meal rather than a whole day and I remind myself that the purpose of it is so that I don't feel that any foods are "off limits." I also don't let myself eat more than I "should" just because I "can."

Allowing for the occasional treat has really helped to keep me on track. I hate feeling deprived. I have also discovered that when I eat healthy the majority of the time, my "cheats" become less appealing. I often feel bloated and uncomfortable and don't even want more of it than I've allowed myself to have.
